Fluorescent energy transfer probes targeting the 16S-rRNA gene of legionella pneumophila were constructed for sensitive and specific PCR. This PCR ensures identification and differentiation of Legionella pneumophila from other Legionella spp. The 16S rRNA gene fragment A628C629 appears to be highly specific for Legionella pneumophila, the bacterium has a set of 203 and 97-bp amplicons specific only for Legionella pheumophila. This all makes the PCR test very specific to diagnoses only for legionella pneumophila.
