Detection of disease-relevant HLA-B27 subtypes

HLA-B molecules are cell surface proteins that have an important role in immunity. The HLA-B27 gene is found in over 90% of patients suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis is characterized by inflammation of the sacroiliac joint and progressing stiffness of the spine. The disease is mostly striking men between the age of 20 and 40 years. Due to the high correlation with the disease, this kind of genotyping is suitable for the differential diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis.

The HLA-B27 RealFast™ Assay is a fast and accurate real-time PCR test for the detection of the HLA-B27 allele. This kit can be used to confirm a suspected diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis or anterior uveitis. The assay discriminates the presence or the absence of HLA-B27 in human genomic DNA extracts and detects all of the disease-relevant HLA-B27 suptypes.
