Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) PCR Kit

About Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) PCR Kit

The TRUPCR® Hepatitis B virus (HBV) Viral Load Kit is a real-time PCR-based assay for the detection and quantification of HBV DNA in serum or plasma samples from HBV-infected individuals. This in vitro diagnostic tool targets the highly conserved pre-core and core regions of the HBV genome and enables quantification of all eight known HBV genotypes (A–H). The assay is calibrated to WHO standards and delivers precise measurements of viral load down to 2.5 IU/ml. With dual-channel detection, built-in internal controls, and compatibility with widely used PCR instruments, the kit ensures fast, reproducible results ideal for patient monitoring and treatment response evaluation in clinical virology laboratories.

Specifications of the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) PCR Kit

What is in the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Kit?

The TRUPCR® HBV Viral Load Kit is designed to provide molecular diagnostic labs with a comprehensive solution for HBV DNA quantification. Each kit includes:

  • Primers and dual-labeled TaqMan probes targeting conserved HBV genome regions (FAM channel)
  • Internal control to detect PCR inhibition (Texas Red channel)
  • Ready-to-use master mix with hot-start Taq polymerase
  • WHO-standard quantification curve

The kit supports reliable quantification of HBV genotypes A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H in one unified protocol.

Role of HBV DNA in Disease Monitoring

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease globally. Transmission typically occurs through blood, sexual contact, or from mother to child. Chronic HBV infection increases the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

HBV-positive patients require careful monitoring through HBV-targeted molecular assays. Quantifying HBV DNA:

  • Supports diagnosis and confirmation of active infection
  • Determines baseline viral load before treatment
  • Guides treatment decisions in antiviral therapy
  • Monitors therapeutic response and potential resistance

About the TRUPCR® HBV Viral Load Kit

This HBV-targeted quantitative assay is calibrated to WHO standards, ensuring clinically meaningful viral load measurements. Its design emphasizes analytical sensitivity, reproducibility, and simplicity for routine use in hospital and reference labs.

  • Sample type: Human serum or EDTA plasma
  • Quantifiable genotypes: A–H
  • Detection limit: ≤2.5 IU/ml
  • Clinical relevance: Supports diagnosis and antiviral response tracking

With multiple pack sizes and compatible extraction formats, the kit is flexible to fit various lab volumes.

Principle and Workflow

The TRUPCR® HBV Viral Load Kit uses real-time PCR with fluorescence-based detection:

  1. Extract DNA from plasma or serum samples.
  2. Prepare the reaction mix using the master mix and primers.
  3. Amplify in real-time PCR systems such as ABI 7500, QuantStudio, or Rotor-Gene.
  4. Analyze fluorescence in FAM and Texas Red channels.

The results are quantitated using a 5-point standard curve traceable to WHO IU.

Clinical Application

This HBV-targeted assay enables molecular labs to:

  • Identify high-risk HBV-positive patients
  • Assess disease stage and likelihood of progression
  • Track antiviral efficacy during and post-treatment
  • Detect low-level viremia and virologic breakthroughs

The TRUPCR® HBV Viral Load Kit is a critical tool in chronic hepatitis B management, transplant monitoring, and public health surveillance.
