Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) Detection Kit (RUO)

About Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) Detection Kit (RUO)

The TRUPCR® Human Metapneumovirus Detection Kit provides a highly sensitive and specific real-time PCR assay for the qualitative detection of Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) nucleic acids (A/B subtypes) from respiratory specimens. This CE-IVD kit is designed for use with clinical samples such as bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), tracheal aspirate, sputum, or nasopharyngeal aspirates collected in viral transport media (VTM).

Using hot-start PCR technology, the assay minimizes non-specific amplification, ensuring high accuracy and reproducibility. An endogenous control (human RNaseP gene) is included in every reaction, which validates both the integrity of the sample and the PCR process by excluding false negatives due to inhibition.

HMPV is a significant respiratory pathogen, often associated with bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and wheezing, particularly in young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Rapid and accurate detection of Human metapneumovirus-positive samples enables better clinical management and helps distinguish HMPV from other viral respiratory infections.

With its straightforward workflow, broad instrument compatibility, and reliable performance, the TRUPCR® HMPV Detection Kit is ideal for clinical molecular diagnostic labs and hospital virology departments.

With compatibility across major real-time PCR platforms (ABI, Bio-Rad, Roche, Qiagen), a streamlined workflow, and flexible kit sizes, this solution is ideal for clinical diagnostic labs performing routine or high-throughput Toxoplasma-targeted testing.

Specifications of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) Detection Kit (RUO)

What is in the Human Metapneumovirus Detection Kit?

The TRUPCR® Human Metapneumovirus Detection Kit is a nucleic acid amplification assay developed for the qualitative detection of Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) nucleic acids from clinical respiratory specimens. This includes bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), tracheal aspirate, sputum, and nasopharyngeal aspirates collected in viral transport media.

Each test is multiplexed to include:

  • A target for Human metapneumovirus (A/B) detection

  • An endogenous internal control (RNaseP) to confirm sample integrity and PCR performance

The kit contains all necessary reagents, including enzyme mixes, primers, probes, and positive controls, enabling laboratories to quickly adopt the assay into routine workflows.

TRUPCR® Human Metapneumovirus Detection Kit – Real-time PCR test for respiratory diagnostics

Role of HMPV Targets in Disease

Human metapneumovirus is a leading cause of acute respiratory tract infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and immunocompromised patients. HMPV infections can result in severe conditions like bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and asthma exacerbations.

Detecting Human metapneumovirus-positive cases is crucial because the clinical symptoms overlap with other respiratory viruses such as RSV and influenza. Accurate molecular detection ensures proper patient isolation, targeted therapy, and effective management of respiratory outbreaks.

The kit’s ability to detect both A and B subtypes of HMPV makes it a comprehensive tool for diagnostics and epidemiological surveillance.

About the TRUPCR® HMPV Detection Kit

The TRUPCR® HMPV Detection Kit is a real-time PCR assay optimized for:

  • High sensitivity and specificity: Achieved through hot-start enzyme technology to reduce background signals.

  • Endogenous control integration: RNaseP gene monitoring ensures sample quality and reliable results.

  • Clinical validation: Tested on a wide range of respiratory specimens, from BAL to nasopharyngeal aspirates.

The product is CE-IVD certified, making it suitable for clinical use in accredited molecular diagnostics laboratories.

Principle and Workflow

The assay relies on real-time PCR amplification, which uses fluorescently labeled probes specific for HMPV and the internal control target. The key steps include:

  1. Sample Preparation: Extract total nucleic acids from respiratory samples.

  2. Reaction Setup: Add extracted nucleic acids to the TRUPCR® master mix.

  3. PCR Amplification: Run on a compatible real-time PCR platform.

  4. Detection:

    • HEX/VIC channel: Detects Human metapneumovirus nucleic acids

    • TEX-RED/ROX channel: Monitors internal RNaseP control

Fluorescent signals are recorded cycle-by-cycle, and the threshold cycle (Ct) values indicate the presence of Human metapneumovirus-targeted nucleic acids.

The total assay time is approximately 90 minutes, with minimal hands-on requirements.

Clinical Application

The TRUPCR® HMPV Detection Kit is designed for use in:

  • Molecular diagnostics labs for routine respiratory virus testing

  • Hospital virology departments for rapid diagnosis during outbreaks

  • Public health laboratories conducting HMPV surveillance and monitoring

  • Pediatric and geriatric care units, where early detection is critical

The reliable detection of Human metapneumovirus-positive samples supports differential diagnosis, helping clinicians distinguish HMPV from other respiratory pathogens and enabling prompt intervention.
