UTI ID PCR Panel Kit

About UTI ID PCR Panel Kit

The UTI Panel by TRUPCR® is a multiplex real-time PCR assay for the qualitative detection and differentiation of urinary tract infections caused by 14 bacterial and fungal pathogens. The UTI Panel is designed to deliver results in under 60 minutes, making it one of the fastest molecular diagnostic tools for UTI-positive identification. Using five tubes and four fluorescent channels, this assay enables simultaneous detection of common and rare uropathogens, including E. coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Candida, and more. The assay integrates an internal control and UNG treatment to minimize contamination risk and maximize accuracy. Its room-temperature setup and compatibility with standard qPCR systems make it an ideal solution for clinical and microbiology labs.

What is in the UTI Panel?

The TRUPCR® UTI Panel is a multiplexed real-time PCR assay targeting 14 clinically relevant uropathogens. These include both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as a fungal species. The panel includes:

Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella oxytoca, Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Streptococcus agalactiae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium, Proteus mirabilis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Candida albicans, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Morganella morganii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Each tube in the panel targets 2–3 pathogens using pathogen-specific probes labeled with FAM, Texas Red, and Cy5 dyes. The setup enables detection of co-infections in a single workflow.

Role of Targeted Pathogens in UTI

  • E. coli: The leading cause of community-acquired UTIs, especially in women.
  • Klebsiella spp.: Common in nosocomial infections and can exhibit multi-drug resistance.
  • Proteus mirabilis: Known for its swarming motility and association with catheter-related UTIs.
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa: A frequent cause of hospital-acquired infections, especially in ICU patients.
  • Enterococcus spp.: Often resistant to multiple antibiotics, complicating treatment.
  • Candida albicans: A fungal cause of UTI, particularly in immunocompromised or catheterized patients.
  • Staphylococcus saprophyticus: Common in young sexually active women.
  • Streptococcus agalactiae & pneumoniae: Rare but clinically significant, especially in special populations.

Together, these organisms cover over 95% of known UTI etiologies in diverse patient populations.

About the TRUPCR® UTI ID Panel Kit

The TRUPCR® UTI Panel is a ready-to-use multiplex PCR kit designed for rapid, accurate detection of urinary tract infections. With a total run time under 60 minutes, the assay offers one of the fastest time-to-result for UTI diagnostics.

It is validated on over 500 clinical samples and is compatible with commonly used real-time PCR platforms. The inclusion of UNG (uracil-N-glycosylase) in the master mix prevents carryover contamination from previous PCR runs.

A built-in endogenous control in every reaction tube monitors PCR inhibition, sample integrity, and extraction efficiency.

Principle and Workflow

The UTI Panel employs TaqMan hydrolysis probe chemistry and consists of the following steps:

  1. Sample Preparation: Extract DNA from urine specimens or cultured isolates.
  2. Reaction Setup: Pipette 20 µL reactions at room temperature into five tubes.
  3. PCR Amplification: Run on any compatible real-time PCR instrument.
  4. Analysis: Interpret Ct values and amplification curves for qualitative pathogen identification.

All reagents are optimized for rapid setup and minimal hands-on time.

Clinical Application

The TRUPCR® UTI Panel is ideal for:

  • Hospital microbiology labs needing rapid UTI screening
  • Clinics with high UTI caseloads, including urology and OB/GYN
  • Research labs studying uropathogen resistance and prevalence
  • Surveillance programs for nosocomial UTI outbreaks

Its ability to detect co-infections, including rare fungal and resistant strains, makes it especially valuable for improving antimicrobial stewardship and guiding treatment decisions in real-time.
